Arterial blood sampling for blood gas analysis (ABG) is often practiced in the hospital setting to help make a diagnosis, indicate the severity of a condition and assess treatment. This module teaches you how to safely prepare for and obtain arterial blood samples from the three main sites (radial, femoral, or dorsalis pedis arteries) for blood gas analysis. Practice the steps of the procedures online as often as you want, until you feel confident. This module is one of the foundation skills required for Year 1 post-graduate medical trainees and for specialist nurses.
The SIMTICS modules are all easy to use and web-based. This means they are available at any time as long as the learner has an internet connection. No special hardware or other equipment is required, other than a computer mouse for use in the simulations. Each of the SIMTICS modules covers one specific procedure or topic in detail.
