Arterial blood sampling for blood gas analysis (ABG) is often practiced in the hospital setting to help make a diagnosis, indicate the severity of a condition and assess treatment. This module teaches you how to safely prepare for and obtain arterial blood samples from the three main sites (radial, femoral, or dorsalis pedis arteries) for blood gas analysis. Including both Learn and Test modes, the online simulator offers three scenarios that test your ability to obtain a blood sample from the radial, femoral, or dorsalis pedis artery, depending on the scenario. Practice the steps of the procedures online as often as you want, until you feel confident. This module is one of the foundation skills required for Year 1 post-graduate medical trainees and for specialist nurses.
