As a medical professional, you may be asked to assist with ear irrigation to remove excess cerumen or foreign materials from the ear, and to instill ear medication. This module provides an overview of how to prepare for and perform irrigation of the patient's ear and instill ear medication. Including both Learn and Test modes, the online simulator offers two scenarios that test your ability to irrigate the ear and instill drops of medication into the ear. Practice the steps of the procedures online as often as you want, until you feel confident. If you are not a medical student or physician, you may prefer the other version of this module, which includes all the procedural information needed by professionals in other roles: /shop/clinical/medical-assisting/general-procedures/irrigate-the-ear-and-instill-ear-medication

You'll learn

  • how to perform safe and correct ear irrigation
  • to visualize the key anatomical structures of the inner and outer ear, and the differences between the straightening of the external ear canal in adults and children

  • how to prepare for and instill medication safely into a patient's ear
