This module provides knowledge on how to perform mechanical ventilation.

Check our pricing plans here

Mechanical ventilation is a treatment where a machine is used to assist a patient in breathing, when they are unable to effectively breathe on their own. This module provides knowledge in understanding the different modes of mechanical ventilation, how to identify the appropriate ventilation type to use, and the detailed steps of how to perform mechanical ventilation. Including both Learn and Test modes, the online simulator will test your ability to perform a mechanical ventilation procedure. Practice the steps of the procedure as often as you want until you are confident.

You’ll learn

  • pre-procedure considerations
  • indications for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)
  • how to perform invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation
  • how to identify the appropriate ventilation type
  • much more (see Content Details for more specific information)
Introduction
Step 1 - Module introduction and expectations
Step 2 - Assess ventilation need and identify appropriate ventilation type
Step 3 - Preparation
Step 3.1 - Equipment preparation
Step 3.1.1 - Ventilation modes
Step 3.2 - Patient preparation
Step 3.3 - Medical professional preparation
Step 4 - Deliver mechanical ventilation treatment
Step 5 - Monitor ventilation treatment
Step 6 - Complete the procedure

The SIMTICS modules are all easy to use and web-based. This means they are available at any time as long as the learner has an internet connection. No special hardware or other equipment is required, other than a computer mouse for use in the simulations. Each of the SIMTICS modules covers one specific procedure or topic in detail. Each module contains:

  • an online simulation (available in Learn and Test modes)
  • descriptive text, which explains exactly how to perform that particular procedure including key terms and hyperlinks to references
  • 2D images and a 3D model of applied anatomy for that particular topic
  • a step by step video demonstration by an expert
  • a quiz
  • a personal logbook that keeps track of all the modules the learner has studied and how long
